the official grand opening of the topaz museum

we went down to the grand opening of the topaz museum in delta. we didn't officially register to attend the event--so we had to sort-of join in as we could. we learned about all of the work that went into creating the museum, which was a lot. and then we went to the topaz internment camp museum, which we had been to before but wanted to see again. it's a great little museum if you get a chance.

many of the japanese-americans interned in the camp were wonderfully creative and good artists. here is an ink well someone made in a piece of fossilized rock.

they also went around in the hills around topaz and found old shells (from back in the bonneville ocean days) and made intricate bobbles out of them.

 some people painted.

and some did wood block prints.

look at this minnie mouse made of out shells!

there is another local historical museum right by the topaz museum, which we have been to before but like a lot. it has a wonderful local flair to it and lots and lots of really cool rocks!

then i just had to throw this on too. this is at our house. our chicks and hens did so well this year. the one of the left bloomed and got that really tall stalk. it got even taller and longer than that (if you can imagine). it was really neat to watch them this summer.
