reptile park day with sierra drinking jus, pizza, and amusement park

this is a series of pictures from our saturday last week.

on saturday morning, sierra excitedly asked if she could tries dad's orange juice that he brought home from work a few days earlier. b happily let her try it but discretely asked me to get the camera. this is the series of pictures we took of sierra trying the "orange juice."

s discovered that it wasn't orange juice, but actually a ginger drink. a very pungent ginger drink.

 s asked about the juice.

and she quickly recovered from the strong, and some would say bad, taste. we were proud of her quick recovery--what a good sport she was!

brian had a big work deadline on the following monday, so he stayed home to work during the morning and afternoon. i took the kids to the nearby reptile park.
w was so excited to see that there was a snake he could pose with. and notice his cool batik shirt. this one is his favorite.

this snake does have a beautiful pattern.

here's w sitting next to a very large snake. he did not want to hold this one.

there were also birds to pose with! w was in heaven.

 he loves cockatoos.

this is a good series of s with the cockatoo. she didn't enjoy having it on her should quite as much as w did.

but by the end she seemed to like it ok.

w with both of the birds--a red lorry and the cockatoo.

i think s liked the cockatoo more than the lorry.

another person at the park really liked the snakes too. but she wasn't afraid to have the big snake on her.

she draped both of the snakes around her.

upon seeing that, w decided he could have the first big snake on his lap.

once he could handle having the big one on his lap, he decided he could have the pretty white and yellow snake draped around him.

it was so big, though, that he often needed help from the park workers to keep it upright.

we saw a great blue heron standing sentinel as they always do.

 we saw a large tortoise.

 we saw another cassowary.

we saw our first komodo dragon--although this is no where near full size.

we saw a big iguana-type lizard outside its cage.

 we saw a little alligator.

we saw a snake coiled up in the back of its pen. every so often, it would strike at the little chicken.

we saw an iguana-type lizard climbing the wall of its cage.

its face reminded me of a gremlin.

neat lizards. this doesn't capture them all that well. they were a very vibrant shade of green.

 a lovely box turtle-type turtle.

red-eared sliders! they have these every where.

a big turtle inside the water. we didn't get a better look at it than this.

i like how it looks like its smiling at me.

 a beautifully-patterned snake.

s playing with one of the snakes.

a huge, huge snake. the girth was enormous.

this was my attempt to show the framed picture of joko widodo coming to the park. all you can see, though, is the reflection off the glass window.

the arched entryway to the park.

w holding a little ball python.

w wearing a little ball python.

 a new flower--one i haven't noticed before.

outside the reptile park was another park with a little lake. this man was fishing and was kind enough to let w and s fish some.

i liked the special boats you could rent and take around the lake.

the man said sierra's cast was sempurna (perfect)!

the park had these neat benches throughout it.

a sign that says that their food can make you cry (because it's so hot).

we think these were colored cups of soapy water you could buy to make bubbles.

there were lots of deer around the park. people (as you'll see) would get right next to them. i told w and s to keep some distance though.

i liked how people would take selfies of themselves with the deer.

there was a dance program about to start in the amphitheater at the park. here are some girls dressed up in colorful attire.

i wanted to take this picture with a whole group of little kids surrounding this deer. when i walked up to the group of maybe 7 kids, i asked if i could take a picture of them. all of them quickly ran off except this girl.

s saw this sponge bob character near the entrance of the park and wanted a picture with him. but then once we got to him, she wasn't so sure that she did indeed want a picture with him.

with w, though, she felt more confident.

we came home from the park to find that b was nearly don with his work. so we waited awhile and then all went out to the amusement park. it was funny going back to solo's park since we went to the big amusement park (dunia fantasi) in jakarta. but it was still fun. b had a sore neck--probably from working so long and so hard on his book project--that he couldn't do bumper cars with me and the kids. given that, he needed to find some different rides to do that wouldn't hurt his neck. he went on this train ride around the park twice. here are some pictures of him enjoying the ride.

he's moving quickly, so it's a bit blurry.

b making the metal sign (and having two faces).

the train coming to a stop.

 b coming down feeling exhilarated!

after the amusement park, we walked over to the nearby cin-cin market (ring market). b found two lovely rings for $20 total. he loves his cin-cins! after the ring buying we walked over to o solo mio for a pizza dinner.

here b is at o solo mio casually sitting with his rings on.

blow this image up so you can see how big the rings are.

we took some pictures of them making our pizzas. we ordered two pizzas that were enak sekali. we also got some dessert--chocolate lava cake for b and i, ice cream for s (although b and i ate it since s was singing), and w got pancake with ice cream.

there was a band who played.

after s finished eating her food, she sang with the band. she sang eye of the tiger (roar) and the frozen song. she also sang that song i think called rude (where it says i'm going to marry her anyway). it was impressive that she was willing to go up there and sing. granted there were only about 15 total people in the restaurant, but she's usually so shy in public situations like this that it was a pleasant surprise.

w really enjoyed the percussion instruments.
