getting into the water for the first time.
a beautiful star fish.
me snorkeling.
s is so photogenic in the water.
we love this one--the bright blue fish with the bright blue star fish.
roland snorkeling.
we saw some huge clam shells. i'd never seen anything like it before.
the "lip" part of the clam shells were beautiful--that vibrant bluish purplish color.
a big shell w found.
another shell.
b particularly likes the living matter on the outside of the shell.
i love this seaweed. seaweed gets a bad rap, but this one is gorgeous.
we aren't exactly sure what this living thing is, but it has a curious form and color.
these pictures of the clown fish and coral are great. this first spot we went to had great coral. it was the first time i had truly felt like i was in a coral garden.
another nice shell.
cathy, sierra, and roland
another favorite of mine. this coral is great--the little filaments at the end would wave around with the movement of the water.
our boat.
w, unsurprisingly, is very good at finding shells. he also loves diving down after them.
this is a good one of the big s.
m holding a big shell with the living thing in it.
i like this action shot and all the bubbles.
the underside is so clean.
the outside is a bit mossy.
nearly all of the shells we found in the water had animals inside them. we would pick them up, look at them, and then gently place them back where we found them.
we snorkeled around a small, rocky island. one of indonesia's 17,000 plus islands.
w very proud of some shells.
a very striking shell--the shell itself and the creature inside.
once we got out, we lounged on the upper deck to warm ourselves up.
here is the prettiest shell that w found at the first spot. we didn't think it had a living creature in it at first but quickly discovered that it did so put it safely back in the water. it's a beauty though.
here we are at our second snorkeling spot of the day.
look at that fish! it's beautiful. our name for it was the batik fish--the perfect fish to see snorkeling in indonesia.
such a gorgeous shot.
we like to call these the ghost fish.
it was always fun to come upon a big head of coral with a bunch of little fish swarming it. they would go in and out of the coral as a unit. if you dove down towards them, they'd hide in the coral. if you stayed away from them, they'd hang out outside the coral. it was fascinating to watch them go in and out of the head.
a huge hermit crab!
b is putting his flipper by the big clam shell to provide some scale.
me taking a breather with the utah-like mountains in the background.
you could imagine yourself in lake powell or even utah lake sometimes.
