manahan & seorang anak kecil sangat imut

this morning, s and i went to manahan to do some olaraga (exercise). this is where brian and i go to do our running. since i knew i wouldn't be doing any running with s this morning, i took the camera along.
here is the entrance to manahan.

just inside the entrance, s is excited to be there.

school girls riding their bikes on the track.

we immediately saw some monkeys. in all of my times being at manahan, this is the best monkey sighting i've ever had. they were up-close and active.

you could see a couple babies and a couple mamas.

as s and i walked around the track, we saw some of the familiar manahan sights. here is a group of people (mostly women) doing senam (aerobic, dance-type exercise).

i always like the nice batik pattern on the pillar of this building.

here's a group of teenage boys (perhaps from a military-type academy) doing some push ups. we often see lots of groups of teenage (or younger) kids at the track.

a couple women walking in typical attire (long pants, long sleeves, and heads covered).

this is a favorite part of the track for me. you come around this curve and get into some much-needed shade.

a group of teenage girls doing a formation routine. we watched them for a few minutes.

i noticed these figures for the first time today. i'm not sure why they are pointing what appear to be guns at each other.

as we started our second lap, we saw the same group of monkeys. but this time they were higher up.

this one, got some food to eat.

i asked to take a picture of this man with his dog. a husky dog seems out of place in indonesia. (surprisingly, this isn't the first one we've seen.)

for the first time today, i saw two father-son duos playing badminton (which is said exactly the same way in bahasa indonesia).

here's a picture of three maintenance workers sweeping up some leaves and trash. this is a common sight at manahan too.

after we were done walking two laps (which seemed to take as long as running 8-10 laps), s and i went back to pak marno to ride the becak home. pak marno had another idea though. i think inspired by our camera, he said something to me in indonesian (which i didn't understand) about pictures. so i said "ok!" he took us across the street and had us enter a pool complex to see it and take some pictures. it really was a nice looking place, and i dutifully took some pictures. if we have time, it would be fun to come back here to swim.

 a large lap pool.

a big pool with several levels of diving platforms. s and i both thought immediately that w would like this part of the pool.

on the way home, i took some pictures of the familiar sights we see as we come home from manahan and the kids come home from school (their school is right by manahan, and, in fact, they go to manahan sometimes for pe).

 a statue.

a street scene--it's right before you cross the train tracks.

a furniture selling stretch of the road. this is where our neighbor, ibu danik, is having a table built. she is going to start making/selling jus drinks from her house soon.

a becak driver fixing his becak.

 basket coverings for roosters.

a couple boys playing in the narrow streets in our neighborhood.

our neighbors, ibu danik and her son andy, brought over ibu danik's brother's granddaughter. she was super cute (imut) as you can see. we all enjoyed seeing her and shaking her hand. when you took her small hand, she would lift it to her forehead (which is a sign of respect here). we all thought that was cutest thing ever.

as usual, w and s enjoyed being around a little kid.

here she is putting s's hand to her forehead.

as an aside, ibu danik made sate sapi manis and jus alpukat for dinner tonight. this was our first time having sate sapi manis (beef sate with sweet sauce). it was very good. we'll definitely want to have it again.

Great pics. How fun to see monkeys while exercising on a track! It was good to see W and S enjoying a little toddler.
