on sunday morning, we got up early and had a camp site church, which was fun. then we headed into the main part of the park.
(one interesting thing to note about the park is that it's in nevada, which means you change into the pacific time zone. but it's on the edge of the timezone--so it got fully dark by 7pm (an hour earlier than we were used to) and it was fully light by 6am (again, an hour earlier than we were used to). this led to going to bed early and getting up early.)
it's been a long time since i've read on the road--so long that it's hard to remember if i just started it and didn't finish it, or if i did finish it all. i thought it would be interesting to try reading it now and seeing what i think of it. i have a hunch it might be better suited for about 17-25 year olds. but i could be wrong.
the motel nearby had cool pieces of wood hung as art on the outside that i thought looked really cool.
there were elements of pole canyon that we enjoyed, but it wasn't our favorite hike. after this one we hiked into an area that had been used for mining.
in the late 1800s they had build a long ditch to get water from one area to another to facilitate the mining.
we stopped by the visitor's center and ate an apple from an old apple tree there. b also took a picture of this sign for the park. i do love the park's old-timey linocut type signs.
i had packed our food supplies and had brought all of the s'mores supplies except the marshmallows! so we ate melty chocolate bars on our graham crackers. (it still tasted good.)
