winter fun with the storeys

also about a month ago, we had breakfast and a day out in the snow with our friends the storeys. the breakfast was fun and delicious (poppy seed pancakes with lemon sauce).
we went up by sundance and hiked in to stewart falls, played around in the snow, and then sledded back to the car. here s is posing for the camera.

the storeys with the waterfall in the background. what a fun family!

can you see w in the stream bed?

ian climbing up the snow on the other side of the stream.

w and nessie by the cold, cold water.

 w and ian playing.

s really enjoyed playing and sledding with lucy.

some of the crew was adventurous and climbed up on the top of the waterfall.

 wah!

can you see that person popping up over the ridge?

nessie joining in on the fun.

 ian and katy.

here they are! now both of them are smiling.

 sliding down the hill.

it was a beautiful day. it was really nice to be out of the yucky inversion that was still really bad down in the valley.

now the adventurers are coming back.

 ross and few kiddos waving.

 that's a fun sierra face.

i like this one of w jumping up from sliding down the hill.

elizabeth making it down the hill.

we saw a moose on the other side of the mountain. on the way back, we had some good views of it.

a lot of moose pics. i always love a moose siting.

back by the cars there was a big long hill that you could slide down. we each went down it a few times.

 w belly boarding down.

 nessie cruising down.

 ian going down.

 s sliding down.

ian really enjoyed our blue sled, and i don't blame him. after this outing, i realized we need to get more sleds like this one.

even lucy got to ride around.

william's 14th birthday

w celebrated his birthday recently. we did a lot of fun things to celebrate. first, we had his friend party at a nickel arcade. as part of that we had pizza, pop, and lots of arcade games. here we have (on the left and then on the right and from front to back): hibiki, nathan, neal, lilly, sierra, b, eli, kyle, and w.

the next day, we had our family party with mom; ross, cyleste, leah, corbin, and paige; and whitney, matt, kirsten, and reagan.

w opening a gift with grandma.

w with a neat soccer ball electronic game thing that he got as a present. i can't really explain it, but it's fun.

then on his actual bday, he got more presents and some good food! here he is opening the cool wolf card emily gave him.

w getting a check and letter from grandma and grandpa.

 a cool buckskin pouch!

 bird call sounds on tape.

for dinner, we had pumelo in the foreground and taco casserole in the background.

there's the taco casserole up close.

and for dessert we had terang bulan. we weren't sure how it would turn out, but it was delicious!

and it had all of our favorite indonesian terang bulan ingredients--keju (cheese), kacang (peanuts), coklat, and susu (sweet and condensed milk). so good.

b and i cc skiing & bakmi goreng

b and i went up into the canyon and did some night cross-country skiing a month ago. this was our first time (1) skiing at all, which means that (2) it was certainly our first time cross country skiing. it was an adventure for sure. the course was pretty up and down and curvy, which we learned makes cc skiing a bit more challenging. we fell down quite a bit, but also were better at it by the time we ended.
here i am near the end of our time skiing.

look at that moon! it was big and bright. it was a beautiful night go to be out.

at the end, taking my boots off.

b next to the skis looking very tough.

also about a month ago, we had our friends christian and michelle over to make bakmi goreng (fried noodles) with us. christian and michelle are from indonesia and our new friends. michelle is my new indonesian tutor.

 we used our indonesian cobex.

the food was good. it was fun to have them over and to practice our indonesian and enjoy some good food. ah, we miss indonesian food!
